Golden Retrievers Rescues Pictures - Introduction and History

Tweedmouth gave his puppies to relatives and subsequently the puppies appeared in several kennel societies. Tweedmouth passed on his business to his nephew, Lord Ilchester, who contributed greatly to the growth of the breed's popularity. The breed has been gaining in world renown since 1908, after the first exhibition.

The first Golden Retrievers exhibited were in the possession of Viscount Harcourt, who acquired his breeding stock from the Earl of Portsmouth. These dogs were displayed at the Crystal Palace and at Gruft's. In 1906, Mrs Charlesworth purchased her first female Golden Retriever, Normandy Beauty, which showed perfect working qualities and high level of intelligence. She mated her dog with one of Harcourt's males. She was the one who encouraged her enthusiastic followers to form a Golden Retriever kennel club, and drafted the breed standard in 1911.

Now this versatile breed of dogs is favored by people of all walks of life. It combines excellent hunting and working qualities. Golden Retrievers are also good for guiding purposes, and they are wonderful pets and companions for children, old people and the physically handicapped.
