Yankee Golden Retriever
The yankee golden retriever clubs have information on breeders, training and rescues.
This is a non-profit rescue organization for this breed and a club for breed fanciers. It promotes the development and enjoyment of these dogs and strives to improve the breed. The membership of the club is composed of breeders, exhibitors, trainers and owners. The members of this club emphasize good temperament and soundness (screening for genetic defects) as well as conformation and ability when breeding, and refuse any mating not in the best interest of the breed. Reputable breeders will never sell their puppies to pet shops.

Prior to purchasing a puppy, ask the breeder for health certificates for both its parents and read a four or five generation pedigree on the litter. Knowledge of the common health problems of grandparents, siblings, and other relatives is also desirable. Titles alone are no guarantee of genetic value, because champion quality dogs can be carriers of defective genes. Breeding stock should have clear hips, elbows, eyes and heart. Any inheritable defect is a reason not to breed. A purebred dog for the ring, for hunting or for breeding should be chosen very carefully.
